Divine Mercy in My Soul
Quotes from the Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska
+ + +
+ When I learned of some of the sufferings and troubles that a certain person was going through in connection with this whole work of God, I asked the Lord Jesus before Holy Communion that He might make known to me whether by any chance these sufferings were not caused by me: “My sweetest Jesus, I implore You by Your infinite goodness and mercy, make known to me whether anything in this matter displeases You or whether there is some fault of mine in this. If there is, I ask You, when You enter my heart, fill it with unrest and make known to me Your displeasure. And if I am not guilty in this matter, confirm me in peace.” When I received the Lord, my soul was filled with great peace, and the Lord gave me to know that the work was undergoing a trial, but was no less pleasing to God because of this. I felt great joy at this but I redoubled my prayers so that this work might come through the ordeal unharmed.

Reflection: Prove me, O God, and know my heart: examine me, and know my paths. And see if there be in me the way of iniquity: and lead me in the eternal way. (Psalm 138:23,24)
Lord, help us to examine our conscience. We see Saint Faustina asking You to make known to her what sufferings she might be causing others. You set her heart at peace, because she was free of this fault.
Help us to know our faults. Bring them to light in the quiet of our hearts. Help us to set them right in confession and in the manner of our lives. You can assist us in questioning our hearts; You can see in us the ways that are not Your Ways. You can lead us on the path to You. Help us! Guide us! Let us know by Your Holy Spirit the way we should go. May we follow all of the help that You give us. May we, and all those we love and pray for, be guided safely on the way to You.

Today, Divine Mercy is the fastest growing devotion in the Catholic Church. So what exactly is Divine Mercy? You may know it as an image revealed to St. Faustina. Or a special form of prayer, or perhaps as a new feast day instituted by Pope John Paul II. While all of those are true, Divine Mercy is even greater.
