Walt was called home by God on Palm Sunday, April 14, 2019.
Walt Tabory served as the Treasurer of the Foundation of Jesus The Divine Mercy and was a member of St. Damian of Molakai Parish, Monongahela, Pennsylvania, where he was active on the Parish Council, and long-time member of the Holy Name Society, and received the Man of the Year Award in 2008. Walt was also the recipient of the Pittsburgh Diocese Manifesting the Kingdom Award in 2013, and the St. Padre Pio Award in 2008. He was a member of the Catholic Men’s Fellowship and Knights of Columbus. Walt coordinated the Friday Eucharistic Adoration, and was a daily Mass attendee. He assisted with the parish soup kitchen and Lenten fish frys. Walt assisted in the building of Phase II of The Rotundini Prayer Garden and was the daily gatekeeper for many years.
After graduating from high school with honors, Walt attended Douglas Business College, and received an Accounting degree. He served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II and returned to work at Combustion Engineering, Inc. as a Production Coordinator and Supervisor, retiring in 1987 with 46 years of service. He and his wife celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. They have two sons and four grandsons. He had been a widower since 2004. Walt was one of the original organizers for the long standing local golf leagues. Since 1945, Walt was a life member of the VFW #1409 and The Slovak American Citizen’s Club of Monongahela, where he held various offices and was the club’s auditor for 45 years.
Walt attributed his longevity to his daily walks, daily Mass, rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, and his many talks with his Spiritual Father and special friend, St. Padre Pio, at The Rotundini.
